So I've been all over the internet looking into this, but can't seem to find a definitive answer that fits my situation.
A couple of months ago, I got my ear cartilage pierced. Yes, it was at the mall, with a piercing gun, and I found out afterwards that that was a bad idea, but that is beside the point. Anyways, I eventually developed "the bump", on the backside of my ear next to the piercing. I wasn't particularly concerned because I'd also gotten "the bump" next to my nose piercing a few months earlier, and it hadn't caused me any issues (except aesthetically), so I wasn't that concerned. Since then however, my ear has become tender and painful to the touch, and occasionally the bump "pops" and blood drains out. However, when I searched online for "signs of infection", it generally says that there is swelling, redness, and yellow-green-brown pus/discharge, none of which has been present for me. So is my piercing infected? Do I need to see a doctor? I'd hate to find out that it's much more serious than it seems; some sites indicate that a serious infection can lead to loss of ear tissue or even death!
For the record, on "the bump" next to my nose piercing, I tried Dial soap, sea salt soaks, tea tree oil, and so on, with no effect. I was eventually forced to remove the ring and have the doctor freeze the bump off with liquid nitrogen. That bump is completely gone now, but my point is, no home methods worked, so I'm not looking for that sort of advice. I just want to know if I should see a doctor.
Thanks, in advance.
